This is my first time participating in a T5W (Top 5 Wednesday) and today’s topic is 2017 goals. I’ll concentrate on my reading goals for the coming year. So here they are:
1 Goodreads
I set my Goodreads reading challenge at 40 books, same as last year. I’m pretty sure I can reach it. Also, this year I want to add a couple of sentences to every book I rate on Goodreads. I usually just rate a book without saying anything about it and I want to change that.
2 Book Riot 2017 Read Harder Challenge (http://bookriot.com/2016/12/15/book-riots-2017-read-harder-challenge/ )
I discovered this challenge at the end of the year and it seems very interesting. In this challenge there are 24 categories/tasks that you have to accomplish to finish the challenge. The goal is to diversify your reading and to “find more books and genres and authors and characters to fall in love with thanks to these wide-ranging tasks”. I shared it with a group of friends and one of them decided to do it with me so we created a list of books according to the categories/tasks mentioned and have begun reading the first one. I am excited about this one. I think it will be great and I hope I will finish it.
3 One author and his/hers books
So I found this one on BookTube. MementoMori did this last year and will do again this year. He picked an author and read everything they have published in a single year. I thought that idea seemed very interesting and decided to do it this year. I had some trouble picking out an author because I didn’t want to pick someone who wrote a lot of books (like Stephen King or Jody Picoult) At first I was going to pick Adrian Tchaikovsky but then I did a little research and noticed that he writes HUGE books (over 600 pages) so I decided to go with Carrie Fisher. She has written 7 books. I can handle that.
4 My book themes
After the summer holidays I got bored with reading because it seemed like I was reading the same book over and over again. Reading the same genre will do that to you. So I decided to broaden my horizons a bit and created a 12 month book theme/genre list. I’ve done four so far (September was zombies, October was historical fiction, November was classic and December was romance). Each theme has three book. I want to continue with this and finish it. January is all about mystery. Can’t wait.
5 Series I want to finish/ start reading
There are a couple of series I have started in the last couple of years but haven’t finished and I want to try to finish them this year. These include The Joe Ledger series by Jonathan Maberry, Red Rising by Pierce Brown and the Vorkosigan Saga by Lois McMaster Bujold.
Honorary mentions:
There are also some things I would like to read that have been on my TBR list for a while like The Dark Tower series and everything by Leigh Bardugo, Robin Hobb and Brandon Sanderson.
It seems like it will be a busy reading year. Can’t wait.
